All charts are not created equal. After selecting a location, Show Me will prompt us to view a Map. The Lines chart will be suggested while working with dates.
● If we select Dimension first then Measure, Bar chart will appear by default.
● A textual representation of the data can be obtained by selecting Measure First, then Dimension.

Types of Tableau Chart

Using Tableau we can create 24 different types of charts. Tableau gives us the best suited chart as per the dimensions and measures selected by us using Visualization Query Language.
● If we select Dimension First and Measure second we will get a text.
● If we select Measure first and Dimension second we will get a graph.

Bump Chart:

When comparing two dimensions, a Bump Chart is used to compare one of the Measure values. They can be used to examine how a value's rank varies with time or location or some other relevant factor. It is the line chart where the rank changes with time.

Funnel chart:

Funnel chart as the name suggests when plotted represents a funnel. It is used to display a measure at different levels/sectors.

Waterfall Chart:

These effectively display the cumulative effect of sequential positive and negative values, thus giving a view of the waterfall. To create this chart we use the Gantt Bar chart.

Pie Chart

Comparatively displays the measure value.

Maps

To represent the data geographically we create a Map chart.

We can manipulate the maps using map options, map layers, Custom Territories

Custom Territories

These are used to create custom groups.

Custom Geo-coding

These are used to customize the geographic area not recognized by tableau.groups.

Actions

These are the activities performed when we trigger an event.

Dashboards

Dashboards are the collection of sheets at one place which are used for better analysis.

We can also add the webpage to our dashboard Multiple charts can be made interactive at same time.

Story Point

Story point is a sequential way of analyzing the visualized data. This will give us different analyses at one place.

Device Designer

Tableau helps us to design the layout so that it is properly visible on different devices - desktops, Cell Phones & Tablets.

Publishing

Publishing the projects on Tableau online. What we have created on Tableau desktop we need to publish it on Tableau Online.
Tableau -> Server -> Sign In
After login to tableau Online click on publish Workbook.
