Irn Bru and Sarcasm

Focusing on the Scottish commonplace; this project aims to propel Scotland from it's usual stylistic clichés and encourages it to be viewed in a more tender manner. The 35mm documentary film photography is housed within a clean and contemporary design language, that elevates the perception of Scotland to something more present and creatively enticing while retaining its own quirks and identity.

The project consists of two books; one based on the Scottish Everyday (Irn Bru and Sarcasm) and the other on Scots Abroad (Socks and Sandals). These books are accompanied by a poster series.

With the help of Scottish female poets, who created poetry based on the images, the aura of the publication was strengthened. Their work helped to further convey the tone of the project; a lighthearted and celebrated view of everyday life in Scotland with the famous sense of Scottish humor.

With special thanks to the poets; Catherine Smith, Wendy Jordan, Kate Tweddle, Katie Rogen, Vicky Allen  and Katie Anderson
