The Makers Brief asked me to ‘Celebrate the life’s work of a local craft(s) person’. This publication was born out of love for my Scottish heritage and oor’ favourite item of nourishment, Black Puddin’! It is an account of conversations and stories gathered whilst spending time with Alan, the best black pudding butcher in the borders. Discussions with Alan unveiled the passion that is so vital in a historic family trade, and also vital to the unwavering commitment necessary in mastering his craft. Sadly however, it is a mastery that goes sorely underappreciated and acknowledged in the zeitgeist of supermarkets and their pre-sliced, plastic-wrapped puddin’.
