Itch Scratch Relief

'Itch Scratch Relief' aims to change society’s perception of eczema.

I had three main aims when planning this project: emphasising the severity of eczema, how eczema affects a sufferer constantly and helping society become more tolerant and empathetic towards eczema.
I wanted to utilise public spaces to show that eczema can affect a sufferer anywhere, finding corners or ridges to be a suitable context. I chose the title Itch, Scratch, Relief to show how the condition is cyclical and therefore constant, helping me become more aware on how I used public spaces effectively to emphasise this fact.
For each word there is a different line symbolising the physicality of eczema, metaphorical of each stage, placed on the corner or ridge. Throughout the stages, the line gets more severe and the words get darker highlighting the vicious cycle. Yet the type becomes softer, metaphorical of the sufferer’s intentions.
This juxtaposition between colour and type indicates the battle a sufferer faces between their valid intention yet ineffective technique when living with eczema, showing how the disease is more complexed than people think.
