'Japanese Juxtaposition' FMP 2014

  • Christiana Eaton
'Japanese Juxtaposition' is based on the concept of relating historical and contemporary; organic and geometric; elegant and crude; and even eastern and western design to create fresh and unique designs ideally for young female fashion.
I used trend magazines such as Mix and Textile View and websites such as Patternbank and WGSN to inform trends for ss16.
I collected a wide variety of research and documented still life botanical plants through drawing and photography. Geometrics are extracted from vintage Japanese archives as way of giving a small nod to classic oriental patterning. Mark making is extracted from still life to leave a balance between the organic and geometric motifs.
Drawings were taken into Photoshop and Illustrator to be digitally manipulated and ready for commercial use.
