Koa – taste your impact

  • Barbara Raich

Koa is a Swiss-Ghanaian brand for a high-value food waste reduction ingredient, that impacts the cocoa value chain. It comes from the smallholder structure in Ghana directly to the pâtissier and kitchens of the world. The beautiful challenge was to combine these worlds into one brand. It reflects the impact of the product, the passion of its people and appeals to the western premium food sector.

The most authentic future-proof strategies are often rooted in respect for the past and heritage. Combining those two factors, Twi – the most widely spoken language in Ghana – becomes the brands’ name starting point. Koa as an abstract form of Kookoo and a combination of its translation Cocoa becomes strong, clear, meaning- and powerful.
To emphasize the origin, Ghanaian patterns emerge from the logo, which are embedded culturally. They evolve into stigmatic-free key visuals and reflect the brands’ diversity with a high recognition value. Contrasting colours strengthen the connection to Ghana, also the empowerment and joy behind the product. Straight use of those elements gives a high-quality look. A Swiss-Ghanaian appearance.
