Less Than Good - Title Sequence

This is a title sequence for a one-off panel show style documentary, “Less Than Good” for Channel 5. The show will feature news stories regarding OFSTED and their recent mishaps. It combines AfterEffects animation with stop frame photography to portray the humorous take the programme will have on the OFSTED tabloids.

The Challenge:
To create a new title sequence for a one-off tabloid panel show about OFSTED. To be commissioned by Channel 5. It must be lively and lighthearted to reflect the content of the show. It must show OFSTED as a rating system, highlight their throw away ideologies and show some of the big headlines that surround them. This show would be for the 9pm slot so must attract young people. It can also be bold and brash, something which would be commissioned for this time slot.
The Process:
The beginning of the process involved experimentation with narrative, which led to developing storyboards to show frame changes. A series of tests and experiments led towards the idea of stopframe animation using plasticine figures with wire frameworks. Once storyboards were developed, I was able to create digital elements to show newspaper headlines and themes. To create the lighthearted approach, I took photographs for stop frame animations. After piecing them all together, I created a title sequence suitable for a panel show.
The result:
“A lively title sequence, very effective for the Channel 5 platform.”
"Fun characters with lots of personality."
"A convincing and appropriate title sequence for a panel show."
