LEVINE

  • Diana Chicaiza
This was an installation that I did in the east hills of Bogota, Colombia for an exhibition of artists who were interested in the intervention of the natural landscape through different perspectives and materials.
"Lavine" is an installation in which white big gelatine cubes are located in the rocky part of the hill and interrupt the irregular forms and shapes by being a completely geometrical and cubic. Thus, the cubes are a heavy structure on the natural surface of the hill, but as day passes by, the cubes start to melt and move a little bit in the direction of the mountain.
They leave white traces on the floor and are touched by the visitors curious to know what are the strange elements.
These cubic elements seem stable and inmovible, but because of their materials they will deform and finally disappear merging with the natural landscape.
The installation addresses the contrast of the perception of nature and industrial cubic white, alongside, with the ephemeral aspect that something that appeared to be so solid started to have.
