Lights Lighting Feast

The aim of the research was, on one hand, to explore the tradition of illumination throughout its history and its technological evolution, and on the other hand, to examine its formal aspect through an appropriate graphical representation of the objects themselves, as well as of the context in which they are inserted. The study of a tradition, however, needs to deal with the natural environment in which, historically, it expresses itself: the many religious feasts of Puglia.
Starting from the reflections that a traditional public space has become either dead or powerless, with the town square as its symbol par excellence, the research attempted to show how religious feasts are probably the only moments when people can still establish an intimate relationship with these places, restoring their lost vitality.
The research went on to study the relationship between the public space and the illuminations, through the encoding of an effective graphic representation of both map and elevation.
Each setup has been documented through drawings, photographs and collection of advertising material; then, each of them has been measured and drawn, recognizing the different types, studying the modularity and identifying its various basic components.
