CLOSED BRIEF: Take a 'Hi Mate' selfie and win $250 AUD per clip

Tourism Australia is looking to engage and inspire UK tourists to visit Australia.

There is no place like Australia - Australia is the friendliest place on the planet and we are settling out to prove it by introducing some new mates.
Brits are considered very reserved compared to Australians, so we want to introduce them to some of their 24 million mates down under they are yet to meet. Australia is the friendliest place on the planet and we are setting out to prove it.

WHAT WE’RE AFTER:
We want you to film real people in real locations, who personify the Australian way of life.
We are after up to 20 video clips, of people's faces up to 4-5 seconds long, in different scenarios and locations filmed on your phone or camera.
They all would be shot in the classic selfie framed style, with one face, centre frame. Remember to film them landscape.
We will only hear them say “Hi Mate” AND a separate one of the same person at the same spot saying “G’day Mate” straight to camera.
Even though it’s a selfie-style framed video we’d like to see Australians in exciting/surprising settings doing interesting activities.
We want people and places that will cut through the clutter and get noticed because they feel real, off the beaten track, local, relatable, fun and alluring. We are open to a variety of scenarios and have outlined some examples below that can be used as inspiration.
It’s really important to be diverse with Aussie “Mates” of all ages, ethnicities and walks of life who will appear at our perfect destination in Australia that is not in the guide books.

  • Theme: Sports/Active
Mates activity examples: Coasteering, snorkeling, freediving, beach cricket, fly fishing, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, golf on a coastal course or with kangaroos

  • Theme: Wildlife/Aquatic Life
Mates activity examples: Coastal walks/views, wild swimming, , safari, swimming with turtles, an underwater “Hi Mate”& “G’day Mate”…helicopter/seaplane pilot on a Great Barrier Reef sandy cay

  • Theme: Food and Drink
Mates activity examples: Grape stomping, bush dinner, beer brewing, catch a fresh fish, BBQ culture, horseback winery tour, beach picnic with kangaroos.

  • Theme: Aboriginal Culture
Examples: Spear fishing/crabbing and cooking the catch on an open fire , Coastal/Mangrove walk, exploring rock art and billabongs, traditional aboriginal arts, aboriginal traditions and culture.

Ultimately, the real people (not actors or models) you film will drive the stories. We look to you on how and who you want to cast (family, friends, neighbour, yourself etc.). Locations/activities feel unexpected and a bonus would be their stories be relevant to today’s culture.
We do not want this to feel acted, staged or overly polished. Think natural lighting, UGC, selfie-style.
