Lola

Lola is the name of my 2015 A/W collection.

‘Garments should consider the wearers problems, experience, desires and engagement with the garment.’ - Alison Gwilt, 2014
Lola, has been designed with the skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB for short) at mind and is suitable for those affected to wear. The inspiration for this collection came from my young friend who struggles with this condition at only 2 years old.

I am hoping to create a positive contribution to contemporary fashion through creating awareness of this condition simply rather than fostering empty consumerism. The fashion industry is now becoming more mindful of social and sustainable issues, but we need to do more. Stella McCartney said, “It’s better to do something than nothing”(2015) so this is me doing something.

Mindful pattern making and construction techniques have been used to avoid abrasive feel, no fastenings are used as everything magnets together or ties together, and the seams are all eliminated or exist on the outer side of the garment. This collection is for “those who’s skin doesn’t work” (Debra charity NZ, 2015)
