As the film shows the on-going state of inequality and violence perpetrated by systems of power and oppression, from the days of Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables and the July Revolution of 1830 (from which the film burrows its name) to the Paris Riots of 2005 (of which the film is based on), all the way to our current global state in 2020, with the Hong Kong Uprising, Black Lives Matter, London Riots and more, We look to localize the film to a UK audience and aim to shine a light on the issues and ask: Why has nothing changed? And what can we do about it?
