The overall design and concept for the 2015 Degree Show identity was based on the use of anagrams. An anagram is ‘a word, phrase, or name formed by rearranging the letters of another’ (according to Google). The concept reflects the diversity of what communication design is and can be. Ultimately it may be seen as the recombination of words within communication design to create new and exciting meanings, and to communicate that the practice can represent many different things.
Every minute millions of search entries are made with Google and new content is constantly added to the Internet. Google structures content
according to the frequency a query is searched and can thereby be seen as a current snap shot of the present. To reflect upon the present time and the unpredictable nature of what communication design may represent, Google search was implemented as a device to transform anagrams used into visual content for the identity.
Throughout the design of the identity it was important to find a structure that is flexible and would accommodate both the concept of the anagram and the details of the show. The designed structure is thereby able to adapt to various mediums such as posters, e-invites and social media pages.
