Made North Yorkshire in Yellow

  • Jamie Salmon
In the summer of 2014, the Tour De Francecame to Sheffield. There were many events to celebrate it, one of which was organised by Made North gallery – an exhibition of yellow shirts sporting designs by a wide variety of designers and artists (local and international) – which I exhibited in.
I chose to directly represent the routes that these crazy bike people would be riding, extracting topography data gathered from a mobile phone app that had charted the routes.
Converting raw data into an undulating waveform in illustrator, I then pulled it into 3D using Cinema 4D, in a similar style to that old Joy Division cover, except against bright yellow instead of black.
This was printed onto a shirt and hung in the Made North gallery alongside all the other designs.
