Magnolias

  • Karine Paronyanc

Magnolias are the symbol of spring, love, beauty and nobleness. To give one’s fiancée a flower of magnolia as a gift means to reveal the depth of one’s feeling and seriousness of intentions. Almost all works of this cycle are of large formats. Painted in a sculptural manner petals of the ancient flower look monumentally but pliable at the same time, like silk shawls fluttering in the wind. Due to different character of chiaroscuro build up, the viewer’s mood changes from painting to painting: from soft morning bliss to midday blazing sun, from velvet warm sunset to cold semitones of the twilight at the end of a deep languid night.
