MARKS AND SPENCER ARCHIVE, 2015
BRIEF: To curate the temporary summer exhibition under the theme of 'Summer.' Using the archive catalogue of products. RESULT: Marks and Spencer have been revolutionary with their in house fabric design. I focused on the evolution of swimsuits, reminding me of the corridor display in Shoreditch House.
In the 60's suits were woven and knitted with a great texture to add to the display. The jazzy 60's designs were a great aspect to include in the project. It was also interesting to focus on styling, for more demure types, M&S designed matching cover ups. In 2013 cover ups and co-ords were very much on the high street and were relatable to the audience.
I found the advertising for summer clothing lines very eye catching with their retro grainy effects, taking my favourite stills from these I blew them up to present the campaigns. The locations of the shoots were great to include in the copy, as they would often reflect new foods and products that M&S would stock. This helped integrate my exhibition into the archive's need to give information on the brand, while being subtle and interesting.
