Mental health awareness: Aware Online by Rosa Kim

At the age of 21, Rosa Kim decided to independently set up a mental health platform, Aware Online. This platform would go on to encourage the much-needed discussion on mental illnesses and provide practical coping mechanisms for those dealing with mental health issues.

"I was 18 when I discovered that my mother had breast cancer. Being the eldest child of a single parent home, who was also just about to start university, this was one of the most significant challenges of my life", explained Rosa. After experiencing extremely challenging experiences Rosa found herself in a deep state of depression. Rosa noticed that there was no space online that welcomed an in-depth discussion on mental health let alone mental illnesses. So Rosa took matters into her own hands and set up Aware Online.
During February 2018, Rosa entered the Creative Conscience change makers award in which she ended up winning a bronze award. The platform has since also won external awards such as the Ravensbrounes advocacy award and it has also been commended by the Mayor of London.
Alone she has already successfully organised two events under the platform for mental health awareness and with the help of Creative Conscious, Rosa is planning in expanding Aware Online for global reach in order to help as many people as possible.
