Mental Objects (Installation & Photography)

  • Tanausu Herrera

In This Installation, Tanausu collected and created an array of objects made of various materials, wood, concrete, glass, ceramic, copper, plastic, bark, straw, carbon, fabric, foam, and unified them by painting them all the exact shade of black, stripping the object of some of its identity, the idea for this installation is to create a black darkened environment where the objects loose their immediate recognition. Tanausu here draws parallels to the mental objects and labels that the mind likes to create, totally illusory and by unifying all objects as a way to signify the non-reality of mental abstractions and thoughts inside pure consciousness, the artist reflects on the disappearance of thought as they enter the void, the all pervasive still, silent, realm of nothingness, the black depth of empty space with its immense freedom.
