Mestizo's Mexico Project

This was a project set by my tutors in which I was challenged to create a project inspired by the country of Mexico with a focus on colour.
I wanted to avoid the stereotypical images that Mexico can evoke within the mind which include warm colours and countryside images.
Instead I chose to look at Mexico city which is one of the most overly populated places to live on earth.
I developed my project by collecting my own images around London's city landscape to replicate the colours i had had found within second hand images of mexico.
The colour scheme included a selection of cooler colours with flashes of vibrant warm colours that are found in the rubbish left amongst the cities surfaces.
I then shredded my pictures and layered them into fringed designs to explore the way the buildings of mexico where tightly compact and people where living virtually onto of one another.
I combined these shredded designs with illustrator patterns.
