Misfit Kit

Tasked with reducing waste in the toy industry, I invented a product which does so threefold.

Misfit Kit is a product which repurposes discarded toys be enabling the creation of new toys from old – thus lowering the demand for new toys to be manufactured. This is achieved through the use of hand-mouldable plastic and ball joints to connect one part to another. The versatility of this process allows the user to modify their toys, swapping out parts for others – meaning the longevity of the toy’s life is extended as the user can change the toy so interest will last longer, again lowering demand for new toys. The packaging is made out of the same hand-mouldable (and biodegradable) plastic which is used for the toy, so once the packaging is no longer needed it can be used to create more toys – meaning there is no packaging waste whatsoever.

Both the logo and pattern on the packaging allude to a toy box being strewn across the floor, the logo portraying the narrative of piecing toys together. The packaging is a hexagonal plastic box, referenceing a nut – something synonymous with building; once one side of it is melted off to be used as more material, it resembles a tool box.
