Moi, Pas Moi

  • Jolie Chatfield

My graduate collection titled "Moi, Pas Moi" meaning "Me, not me" aimed to explore fashion's function as social identifier. I referenced styles, and fabrics that are traditionally associated with power, vulnerability, entertainment, business, and functionality in order to create a collection that feels both cohesive and jarringly at odds with itself - much like the human psyche. Each look is constructed in entirely one colour from a neutral, earthy colour palette, referencing fashion's ability to homogenise society. In terms of silhouette, I played with the idea of stretching, scrunching and shrinking as a comment on the idea of "imposter syndrome" and "faking it 'til you make it". In terms of creative direction, Kelly (my model) hides her face in every shot, thus creating an air of anonymity in terms of who the intended wearer *really* is.
