Monuments

  • Marcelo Deguchi
Monuments was the final assignment for my Masters Degree at the University of the Arts London. Accompanied by an essay entitled the State of Land, the making of Monuments started as an attempt to record a dialogue between time and space, exposing how their concepts are heavily mediated by our perceptions and systems of construction of meaning.

It consisted on a series of medium format analogue photographs taken in liminal and opens spaces in London, that were exhibited at London College of Communication late in 2012 and a group exhibition in Paraty, Brazil, in 2013.

Each image is a multi layered reference to the immateriality of the image, brought to awareness by the frail human attempt to grasp the earth to analyse it, map it, measure it and make sense of its consciousness.
