Mooch Burger Bar

As part of my role at The University of Nottingham Students' Union, I was asked to rebrand the student bar and restaurant, Mooch.

The former brand was an unconsolidated, clunky and dated mess and the manager was also about to upgrade to a gourmet burger menu.

It was time for change.

The new brand had to be tailored to sit neatly alongside the rest of the Students' Union branded materials that I was producing on a day-to-day, but it was also to have a bit of an ass kickin' attitude about it.

Cue Mooch Burger Bar.

The logo solution was beefy. Apologies. It served as a strong icon that was recognisable anywhere on campus and worked well with the diverse collateral that one might expect to be created for a lively local student watering hole.

The bar holds regular events, from Summer, Halloween and Christmas parties to beer festivals, Playstation tournaments and more. The place is lively and so was my branding solution. The menu was printed and clipped to an embossed wood backing that gave the bar a rustic edge, and the posters were always made quirky. I have this fantastic book called "The Art of Rock" and it's amazing to delve into for ideas. Some of the graphic design principles that went into those old skool gig posters are mindblowing. The book certainly had a role to play in my design work at Mooch.
