Moon River

  • George Reynolds

"The song Moon River is about looking to the future and the past simultaneously. The river represents time and the journey from start to finish, it's about the journey of life" I created this wordless narrative for my pre-major project at university. With ‘Moon River’ I hope to evoke an emotional response from the viewer and engage with them on a deeper level than purely aesthetic. The hand drawn illustrations follow the journey of a river to its source, navigating the barren landscape of a surreal planet. I wanted to take a patient approach to the flow of the narrative, exploring the environment in an intriguing and cinematic way. As the clouds disperse and the skies become clearer, the profile of a face is revealed in the outline of the mountain range with the river pouring from its eyes like tears. Although the meaning of the sequence is open to interpretation, I hoped to visually describe the feelings of loneliness, isolation and being trapped in an unfamiliar place. My personal style of work includes a lot of blue, and this seemed appropriate to add to the feeling of melancholy in the sequence.
