#MotherWorks 2018
At the end of an incredible year, I have finally given in to the pressure and included myself among the amazing #MotherWorks mums. So I went Christmassy and would like to wish you a fabulous festive season!
A year ago I was just starting to shoot the first working mothers to be part of the exhibition, by March I had over 30 portraits and Sarah Olney MP opened #MotherWorks as Brixton’s main celebration for International Women’s Day 2018. Then working with Wavemaker I was able developed the idea as an exhibition for business - a way to celebrate working mums in organisations and make them feel more included and recognised. Being part of the London Design Festival was a wonderful way to celebrate working mums in the community. With lots of events planned for next year I am excited to be able to offer sponsorship opportunities as well as hosting the exhibition
I have met so many wonderful women and loved watching their stories unfold as professionals and mums. Rachel Carell founder of Koru Kids wrote this extraordinary piece about raising money from investors while 8 months pregnant!
June Agelides has worked tirelessly to make the tech industry work for mums and promoting diversity and inclusion, sometimes with her gorgeous daughter Iris, who she was pregnant with when I photographed her for #MotherWorks.
Dr Zoe Young released the ground breaking book “Women’s Work” about mothers managing flexible working in careers and family life.
Next year is the 100 year anniversary of women being allowed into the professions, believe it or not it was illegal for a woman to be a lawyer, a doctor as well as an MP before 1919. So #MotherWorks will be celebrating the extraordinary achievements made by women on the professions. I have already started shooting and have some great images of some amazing women, watch this space…
