Mountain Miles

Mountain Miles is a dog walking service with a difference. Based on rugged landscape at the edge of the Peak District, they offer all-terrain adventures for energetic dogs. The owner, Scott, wanted an identity and accompanying materials that brought his unique service to life.

I looked to outdoor lifestyle brands for inspiration as they communicated the right mix of rugged adventure and outdoor pursuits. The identity borrows a similar aesthetic through the use of bold type, a lively colour palette and a strong emphasis on photography.

As a fledging business Scott was on a tight budget so I had to make the process as cost-effective as possible. I spent a lot of time sourcing a suitable typeface that wouldn't cost the earth. In the end I settled on Insolent as it was bold, direct and worked well set in caps. Best of all, it was free.

Scott had a nice collection of images taken from his walks in the mountains. These became important elements of the identity as they provided a personal insight into his business and gave credibility to his offering. I did post-processing work on the images to give them impact and tie them together visually.

I went on to design stationery, flyers and posters using the same style. I also put forward a design for a custom dog jacket. This provided a cost effective, direct way to advertise the business while out walking. Mountain Miles is going from strength to strength. The business is seeing steady growth and Scott is now recruiting new dog walkers to keep up with demand.
