I am a MA Magazine Journalism student at the University of Sheffield, due to complete my course in September 2017. I have learnt how to use design software such as photoshop as well as SEO and social media to increase the reach of my articles. This can be seen in my university work and my lifestyle blog. After starting just over a year ago I write about mental health, feminism as well as covering events in Manchester and Sheffield. In my spare time I play on the university rugby team and enjoy going to gigs and photography exhibitions.

Skils and Abilities

During my time studying Magazine Journalism I have picked up skills in content (written and multimedia) production, interviewing and editing. I can use Adobe Indesign, Photoshop and Reeper to a high level. I also have some basic coding training so I can build basic webistes, design layouts and input multimedia.
I have excelled communications skills. This year I have worked on a project focused on eating disorders and mental health which really honed my interview skills in difficult and sensitive situations.
I have my NCTJ qualifications in both media law and court reporting. I have also learnt how to use SEO and social media to increase traffic to articles. I learnt the importance of this when doing some local reporting for Worksop in Nottinghamshire.
This year has been amazing in letting me explore different writing styles. i was used to opinon and blog writing. However, I have had a chance to write news, colour pieces, longform multimedia reports and profile interviews.
I also use social media (perhaps a little too much) for personal and proffessional purposes- Twitter, Tweetdeck, Facebook, Instagram.
Below are a couple of examples of the design and film work I have done this year.

BA (Hons) Sociology and Social Policy- 2:1 University of Sheffield 2013- 2016
MA Magazine Journaism- University of Sheffield (will finish in September 2017)

About Me

For my undergraduate degree in Sociology and Social Policy I studied race relations, gender inequality and political theory, all topics I enjoy writing about. After graduating I wanted to look at these issues from a journalistic perspective, so I applied for the Masters in Magazine Journalism. After practising different writing styles, I have gained skills in interviewing especially in sensitive situations. I have also learnt to write for different readerships, including children and men. Alongside my studies I have played on the women’s rugby team for two years- a great way to socialise as well as a confidence- builder. I am an active member of the LGBT+ society, attending socials and campaigning. This has enabled me to work for and write about a cause very close to my heart.
