Natural Distortion Encounters

‘Natural Distortion Encounters’ presents a filtered view of the urban environment seen in the beauty of natural distortions, created by light captured in glass architecture and water that acts as a mirror to our surroundings. Fascinated by the possibilities of light and its reflections onto these surfaces, captured through photography to present the beauty of the urban environment distorted into a multitude of free-flowing forms and patterns that adorn these surfaces. These natural distortions may not be noticed or rarely seen in detail by the eye. Photographing reflections captures the transient movements of these natural patterns.
The celebration of these distortions have been explored through intricate hand-cut photomontages, manipulation of inks and watercolours and scanning collages in-motion to create a digital effect of the movement of these photographic reflections.
In response to my concept, two collections are presented – water and architecture – exploring the relationship between nature and the urban built environment. The designs are digitally translated on to reflective sheen, metallic and transparent fabrics that aesthetically conveys the reflective nature of the concept in the creation of an innovative collection of designer womenswear fashion fabrics for S/S 18.
