Nokia Life-Line

  • Amanda Tooke
Created at Goldsmiths in a team brief set by Nokia's Advanced Design Studio, we were asked to create a new mapping system which fulfilled a poetic and emotional aim, an approach which modern maps do not fulfil.

We created 'Life-Line,' a movement mapping system which uses your phone to track your everyday movements and then places them on a physical globe. We visioned this as a memorial artefact for when somebody died, placing 'A' for their place of birth and 'B' for their place of death. This created a mapping system that reflected very human notions, which can be held in your hands and become an object of discovery about a person, and how their lifetime movements may have even influenced yours.
