To fight aquatic waste we must reduce our production waste and prevent it ending its life in our oceans. The team coordinates regular visits to local beaches where children and adults can learn by interacting with their environment, through first-hand experience living and recollecting data in a privileged contact with the elements of nature.
Beach cleanings, are usually in the mornings and are mixed with fun beach games. We walk together on a local beach with bags and rubber gloves and clean up the beach from trash, flotsam and jetsam. In doing so we start the creative process. Participants, together with the artists, select the useful raw materials for turning trash into art.
Through beach clean ups, children can begin to think about the "whale of a problem" that is marine trash and enjoy learning about ways to keep the oceans and environment healthy. Our over all objective is to teach children that trash is not always garbage. Often items can be reduced, reused or recycled to help the environment.
“Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world,” and as our homage to our grandchildren, we will continue to raise awareness of climate change and its impacts on earth, oceans and people through the medium of Turning Trash into Art!
