A/W womenswear textiles collection, inspired by the original engineering drawings of the channel tunnel. In the late 19thcentury Ellie’s Grandfather was the chief draftsman for the channel tunnel, over his time he gathered original drawings and designs, which Ellie was able to transform and manipulate into her own drawings for textiles. Ellie wanted to combine the idea of manmade and the natural world, by gathering inspiration from plants and foliage. Inspired by the graphic and bold shapes, within the original drawings and the vibrant natural forms and colours of nature, Ellie created a colour pallet equally as bold. To achieve the idea of structure within the collection, Ellie used bulky fabrics such as faux fur which she then embellished and embroidered onto using CAD and hand embellishments, in order to create different surface structures. The lighter fabrics such as the twill used for sublimation print are pleated using chevron pleat and pineapple pleat to create a different form for the body. Ellie applied the embroidery and embellishment skills she learnt working at an haute couture house, alongside digital embroidery in order to create a luxurious and unique collection. The collection mainly consists of leather, faux fur, cotton, velvet and twill. The high-quality fabric choices for the samples give a more luxurious aesthetic, in order to match the time invested in the delicate techniques applied.
