Otium

Otium is a lounge chair that utilises the wellbeing benefits of solid timber to create a form that is adaptable and flexible, to different environments and needs within the home. The chair has been designed to promote leisure during a period when working from home is a new normal, and explores the use of digital manufacturing technologies to add texture and tactility to an outcome with a strong contemporary design language. The prototype piece has been made using solid Ash, accompanied with grey Linen upholstery, and features keyhole joint mechanisms in order to deconstruct the chair for transportation and maneuverability. Otium is the Latin translation of ‘leisure’, one of the key aims of the brief.
