'Out of Sight, Out of Mind'

This competition brief was for the Hand & Lock Prize for embroidery. Inspired by my love for the ocean, I wanted to highlight the importance of the corals in our oceans that are continuously being destroyed, unless we start to take care of our oceans. The first three prints are my interpretations of corals before they have been turned into their skeletal selves, named 'Camo corals' the shapes within the prints naturally disperse in growth across the print, with layered corals from research over the top. The 'Skeletal corals' below them are more rigid and have a check theme running throughout to represent the stripped back lack of fluidity and comfort. I have played around with scale within these sections, however connecting the layered coral drawing as seen in the first camo coral to bring the print collection together.
