Particles

Particles is the project for an interactive installation
that makes use of a vvvv patch on a pc and the app
Kontrolleur on Android smartphones.
The installation is set in an exhibition space. Before entering the venue, visitors are encouraged to install the app on their smartphones. The room that hosts the installation has poor illumination. On a wall there
is a projection of a rough texture, the same image that
appears when running the app. When people tap on the screen of their smartphones, parts of the texture are removed, revealing a bright colour. At the same time, an equal portion in the projection is cleared.

Beyond this there is a video streaming from a camera placed outdoor, possibly in a natural context such as a garden outside the venue. The contrast between the low resolution texture and the HD quality of the video stresses the material nature of technological artefact.

At the same time, the physical and collective action that people perform aims to undermine the perception of technology as an independent entity - pointing to the complex network that is required for technology in order to be developed and work.
