Penguin Random House UK - Goodnight Mister Tom

For the children's section of the Penguin Random House competition, entrants were given the task of illustrating a cover for Michelle Magorian's Good Night Mister Tom, the story about an evacuee and the hardships he faces in his life during WW2. The new take on the cover had to encourage the youngsters of today to pick up and read the book, whilst also representing the tone of the book. To do this, I chose a simple colour palette and focused on the light and dark in the book. By depicting William, Mr Tom and his sheepdog on a hill, I was able to represent the growth that William goes through in the story, as well as hint at the success or trauma that lay beyond the hill.
