Penguin Young Designers Competition Entry

At the beginning of February '17, in my second term at Nottingham Trent, I started to work on a completion called the Student Design Award 2017. This is a completion set up by Penguin Random House UK with prizes for first, second and third places of each of the three book categories. The competition deadline was March 7th and I submitted an photography based cover for the classic adult fiction by Harper Lee - To Kill a Mockingbird. Origianlly, my work was illustration based but I felt my illustrations were not strong enough to portray the books reality and story line.
Unfortunately, I did not get shortlisted. However, the experience has thought me about going out of my comfort zone and entering competitions I normally wouldn’t. I am not disheartened and will definitely enter the compitition again next year!
Below is some of my work and development process which lead up to the final piece I submitted. Emidiately below is my final cover design.
