This book is about a unique group of extroverts who are from Bright- on. I have lived in Brighton all my life and seen some weird shit going on there, but I never really thought anything of it until I moved to Lon- don in 2019. The title ‘People who don’t give a fuck’ speaks about the attitude and mindset that I believe this group has in common. I want to show how this connects them all together, but equally, look at their different personalities and styles and look for similar traits they have in common. In the 19th century, Brighton was a small fishing town. But in 1820, the flamboyant Prince Regent George IV came to live in Brighton and changed the image of the town forever. Since then extroverts seem to have naturally gravitated to Brighton. All these people are allowed to act like this because they are in a place that gives them the license to do that. If you see someone strutting along with a pair of pants on their head, it’s almost the norm in Brighton most people would just ignore it. Brighton is the only city in the UK with a Green MP, this definitely shows something about the culture of Brighton as it’s always been open to different ideas and communities, it is also the unofficial gay capital of the UK. The tribal qualities of this group are interesting, their attitude and style bind them together, but they operate as a disconnected network but with a common culture and outlook. They appear to be exclusively male. With the number of weirdos in Brighton, this book could have been as big as the Oxford English dictionary and probably as boring, so that’s why I have handpicked some of the standout premier players from the People who don’t give a fuck.
