Pissed Modernism

  • Craig Black
Pissed Modernism is a visual art exhibition that combines Art, Politics and Craft Beer. Inspired by the incredible feeling of political awareness in Scotland during the Indy Ref, contributing artists are asked to create work to display comments and reflects on the world around them; from socio-political issues to locates to... well, whatever they want.

The aim of Pissed Modernism is to raise awareness and promote ongoing discussions of socio-political issues and also the fantastic causes of the charity partners.

As part of the exhibition, I contributed a bottle packaging label and poster design which are typographic illustration based. Both designs reflect the strong passion of the Scottish Independence Referendum (Indy Ref).

Poster design titled 'One Nation' contributes to how some people of Scotland want to become 'one nation' and not to be part of Great Britain.

The bottle packaging label titled 'Now or Never' reflects how powerful the Indy Ref was in 2014 and why so many people thought that this was Scotland's moment to become independent when the overall outcome was to stay joined to Great Britain. The lettering of 'Never' is worn away to reflect that one day Scotland could become independent.
