Postcard Modern

“The time and effort made by the sender to mail a postcard sets the practice apart from other modes of more rapid communication in the 21st century. The experience of accepting a postcard, as a designer, feels rather static and archaic. I was interested in making the experience more interactive for the receiver, and thus more memorable, while modernizing this method of communication. Shown in a step-by-step explanation, the postcard both sends the message and delivers the sound bite. On the bottom, I present other designs. Of note, the ‘Get Better’ design was printed on Holbein Vanishing Paper, which allow an image to be created by water to remain visible for ten minutes and then disappears. The quote, “Cry a Tear, Sail a Boat” harkens to the release of emotions and remembrance of nostalgia moments as a young boy with my brother. “Distant Relation” would be sent as fragments strung together by the receiver.”
