Power, Subjectivity and Objectivity: The Black Woman

  • Alexandria Animba

A short photo series depicting the Black woman authentically and unapologetically. I looked into the way in which Black women have been pictured through history in visual art, and how a lot of her features are often erased or altered to cater to a white palette. I chose to subvert that. I used 35mm film and hand printed the images. Further, I turned a selection of the images into a collage. I also styled the entire shoot, inspired by the Regency era.
