Innovative Jewellery Company Launches E-Commerce
Órama London bracelets microfinance women in developing countries
London, UK: Jewellery company Órama London, founded by Imperial College graduates Joelle Fuchs, Ilaria Gilardini and Yolanda Zoma, has recently launched its new website and e-commerce, making purchases of their beautiful bracelets available worldwide. Each bracelet pledges a part of its profits to their partner Opportunity International, one of the largest micro-financing organisations in the world.
The social enterprise’s innovative model disrupts the industry, making purchasing jewellery a meaningful experience, with a strong focus on empowering women with a vision. Micro-financing is seen as a long term solution to fight poverty, and Órama’s quest to make women financially independent gives a new meaning to the notion of making them pillars of their communities. “Opportunity International’s micro-financing includes a whole package of support and guidance which goes beyond just money” – says Ilaria Gilardini, in reference to the financial training and education that women receive along with their loans. “When a loan is repaid, the money is then available to help other women who need it. At present, we are mainly targeting women living in Asia, Africa and South America – helping them develop businesses for their local communities and gaining access to better education”, adds Joelle Fuchs. Órama currently features two collections:
  • - The Inspire Collection (retailing at £89) includes bracelets made of precious metals in four distinctive designs and affirmations (Grace, Vitality, Freedom and Virtue).
  • - The Vision Collection (retailing at £55) includes bracelets in eight vibrant colours, each one with a unique meaning.
Their partner Opportunity International gives out microloans to women in developing countries wishing to launch or expand their business, becoming financially independent. Yolanda Zoma explains the importance of focusing on women: “At Órama, we want to make women independent.
The micro-loans these women receive are essential for the financial stability of the woman’s family and a matter of long-term survival; thus it is absolutely imperative they are financially autonomous and have a steady income. It is vital for their children to create a better environment, providing them with more prospects than other generations had.”
