Project 1/6 iSTD Books Still? Print vs Screen

  • Sarah Thomas
Within this project I made a book that needed to be read across both formats of print and screen. I treated the book as a three page layout.

This project was to research and show whether printed books were becoming outdated. I found out that there was a certain nostalgia for printed books that screen would never achieve. Also the love of printed books was different to the use of the screen based book.

I made pro’s and con’s of both formats and placed them alongside each other. This forced conflict between the two formats and also made the book into more of a debate. I really enjoyed working on both formats and I found that the outcome was quite complimentary to both.

Another part to this project was to make all the typography and layout design as systematic as possible so that the two formats could be used together without looking out of place or showing bias to one side.

To achieve this I made the book size the same as the iPad display and made a grid system to make every design detail fall at the same point.
