Postgraduate Research in progress.

“The increasing ‘architecturalisation’ of textiles and the increasing ‘texturalisation’ of architecture are, more simply, architectural ways of thinking and doing in textile design, and a textile way of thinking and doing in architecture.”

Advances in textile technology and manufacturing have provided a wider potential for the application of textiles, and the role of the textile designer has consequently taken on multiple meanings. RE-FORMATION has challenged traditional commercial approaches to textiles with the investigation of the field’s merging with architecture. Using an “architectural way of thinking and doing in textile design”, the research explored manufacturing processes - such as 3d printing -to produce a series of experimental pattern-based structures that could be used as decorative features in an architectural environment.

Produced in collaboration with GrabCad and printed with iMaterialise.
