This is a D&AD new blood 2015 brief by Monotype. The challenge was to be created a new visual language for film advertising, that relies only on typography. It had to be chosen an art director of our choice and three of his movies.

The idea was to be used laser cutting for making letters and photographing them in certain way. To capture the essence of the movies that were chosen, was used directed light and playing with the shadows.
In Hugo (2011) Scorsese picture centers on a mystery involving Hugo’s late father, an automaton and bitter toy-shop owner. The luxurious use of 3D and the care he takes over the emotional impact, is virtuosic. A touching ode to the wonders of imagination and cinematic history.
New York, New York (1977) is an American musical drama, that shows the real life on the New York's jazz stage. A love story between a jazz saxophonist and a cabaret singer.

Shutter Island (2010) is a rococo thriller about a missing mental patient on an island full of them. A movie where fantasy and history (both personal and cultural) uncomfortably mix into one paranoia-infused stew.
