For this project, we were tasked with making a typographic book about any topic of our choice. Initially my main ideas revolved around football and sports but I felt this was and idea that has already been done several times. Because of this, I thought back to the previous summer of that year where I volunteered in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. I took many photographs and thought it would be good to combine these with some type in an experimental book.
The main goal was to create a rough and at-a-glance guide to Rio as a city. Culturally there are many things to write about, in the end I just briefly covered five key aspects of the city: its history, the favelas, the main zones, its people and the main attractions. Its a multi-layered city which inspired me to create a book made of several smaller books or sections. alone, each section doesn't make full sense but together it creates a picture of the city as a whole.
In summary this book is a typographic and photographic culmination of my travels in Rio De Janeiro, giving insight into the vibes and atmosphere of this incredible city.
