A Professional South East Tour of Romeo & Juliet adapted by Pip O'Neill & Luke Ofield. Performed February-April 2016. Milan, 1910s. Two ideas are growing rapidly, both worlds apart and irreconcilable to each other. Revolution sweeps the streets of a changing city. On one side the capitalists join forces with the Catholic Church, presided over by Cardinal Capulet. On the other, the angry communists, funded by the great Montague family, grow ever more powerful.Violence is inevitable, love is fleeting. Join Unmasked as they continue to rip up the copybooks with a thoroughly unique take on the most famous love story of all time. Mid Sussex Times Review: "The Bard’s appeal is still strong, but how do you keep his works fresh after 400 years? Well, If you’re Unmasked Theatre you make some surprising and undeniably bold changes. Their version of Romeo & Juliet takes the traditional text and cuts it up. The basic story remains, along with much of the original dialogue, but more modern elements are strategically inserted. We get snippets of present-day speech, scenes with atmospheric pop music and montages that come across like symbolic performance art. Overall, Romeo & Juliet blends style and substance together nicely, presenting a novel take on an enduring classic."
