This project was inspired by the 'S*nd N*des' jokes and memes I had seen on the internet. However, I wanted to dig a bit deeper with the concept and so I started to look into the history of where nudes derived from. Within Western history, the earliest nudes are thought to be Ancient Greek sculptures and so I chose to centre my concept around Greek mythology. Within this period, it only made sense to focus on the Greek Goddess, Aphrodite, as she symbolises sex, love, desire and beauty. The first chapter recreates one of the most famous paintings of her called 'Venus and the Mirror'. The second chapter explores Venus' affairs of the heart and her affair with Ares and Hephaestus.
