Salford City Council
The identity created for Salford City Council was based on a historical element from the town’s rich industrial and cultural past, James Nasmyth’s steam hammer. The idea was to forge a union between the past and Salford’s future, as a new, modern, thriving and cosmopolitan city. The brand has a solid, established and industrial-heritage approach, yet is modern and adaptive and works in a multitude of different colour palettes, which allows it to be used on a broad range of design media and platforms. The hole situated in the middle of the logo composition is a nod to the area’s rich musical history, has been inspired by the snap-in plastic insert known as a “spider” found on old 45 records which brings a subtle ‘note’ to the piece.
