SAM

  • Stefania Okereke

SAM is an experimental short exploring gender performance and identity, revealing the anxieties of an individual who does not neatly fit into society’s constructed boxes of male or female. The film will be embraced by LGBT audiences, but even more so, that it will challenge those viewers who have not seriously considered gender and identity construction, broadening ideas about how gender is experienced. Because the film deals with complex themes and does not follow a traditional narrative structure, criticism and interpretations are necessary to be certain the film’s ideas are coming across. Additionally, we need advice about how to market the film, including which festivals it would best suit. The film has largely changed from conception to completion, with many stages of experimentation building to the final piece. Because we were so close to the subject matter, it is crucial to have as much outside perspective as possible.
