Photography: Sarau Eletrico's book

  • Cynthia Vanzella
Sarau Elétrico is a Literature & Music event that happens once a week at Ocidente Bar, in Porto Alegre/Brazil, since 1999. Four very popular personalities in the city’s cultural scene - radio host Katia Suman, professor Cláudio Moreno, writer Luís Augusto Fischer and writer Claudia Tajes - meet every Tuesday night to read and discuss books with the audience. Every time focused on a different topic, and often with a special guest. The evening always ends with live music. It's intimate, relaxing and fun.

Between 2005 and 2011, I  photographed the event nearly every week for their website. The photos were also used in a book about Sarau's history that was published a few years later.

More than simply promoting what Sarau Elétrico is about, my photos documented memories of what is an important part of Porto Alegre's cultural scene. Live literature, live music, candlelight and wine. It doesn't get much better than this.
